The brief: A two-location Yarra Valley wedding — vineyard ceremony at 4:30pm followed by a 6pm barn reception 150m across the property. The couple wanted indie acoustic for the processional, Italian café music through canapés, dinner-friendly soul through entrées and mains, then a tight cross-decade dance set from 9pm — 80s through current — closing on a Cold Chisel singalong.

What we did: I set up a battery-powered Pioneer rig in the vineyard for the ceremony so we didn't need cabling across the rows. Cue'd the processional to land as Em rounded the last vine. Pack-down took under 15 minutes. In the barn I ran the main RCF NX-45 system with a side-fill speaker behind the bridal table — speeches were intelligible at the back row, which is rare in a high-ceiling barn. MC'd the formalities: bridal party intro, cake, speeches, first dance. By the time we hit the open floor we were 10 minutes ahead of the run-sheet. Read the room, opened with Whitney, kept tempo lifting, dropped Khe Sanh at 11:46pm to finish.

Outcome: Dance floor was packed from the first song to the venue curfew. The Yarra Valley planner has referred two more couples since. Em's review specifically mentioned the ceremony cue timing — the kind of detail that only comes from doing this for 20+ years.
